Home Schooled Hound offers the opportunity for you to learn the skills you need to train your own dog, with a professional trainer guiding you every step of the way . Finding the time to train your dog amidst a hectic schedule is hard enough, but for many pet owners finding the right information on how to simply and efficiently train their dog is nearly impossible. That's why we created Home Schooled Hound - for those who want a well mannered dog but don't want to turn their schedule upside down to get it done.
The six or 12 week courses enable you to meet in person or virtually through web-cam with the instructor for a 30 minute session every week. The entire session will focus on you and your dog's needs. Because these courses are private lessons and not group classes they are ideal for fearful or reactive dogs or those that struggle to maintain focus on their handler when there are overwhelming distractions present. These private courses provide you with the opportunity to personalize the course to meet the needs of your dog.
At Home Schooled Hound, we believe in teaching the owner how to train their dog. Through the process of training, the dog develops a strong bond with their handler. Because you are the person who lives with the dog we want the dog to develop a deeper bond with you! You need your dog to listen to you, not to the instructor who will leave after a few weeks. It is often said "Our dog only listens to my husband" or only to one member of the family. All the members of the family should be involved in training the family dog so s/he will learn to respect and listen to each member of the family. The instructor will teach you everything you need to know and answer all your questions along the way so that you can successfully train your dog with ease.
Can't meet in person or don't want the trainer coming to your house? Not a problem! You can meet with your instructor over webcam instead! You can schedule your appointment to meet with your instructor and choose to meet in person or over webcam and train your dog right in front of the webcam.

Methods used
We use force-free, positive reinforcement based methods that have been scientifically proven to be effective in helping animals learn. These methods deepen the bond between dog and handler which increases your dog's desire to listen to you. Force-free, positive reinforcement based methods increase the dog's confidence which ultimately decreases fear and aggression issues. The biggest reason we choose to have dogs in our family is because we as humans greatly benefit from the relationships we form with them. These bonds between species are often some of the deepest that we experience, and we would do anything to avoid threatening that relationship. That's why the methods we use work toward deepening your relationship with your dog, and he'll have fun learning in the process.
